One important reason for running Special Mont Pelerin Meetings is to enable us to invite people in the region who have shown a commitment to the values of liberty to join members and guests, listen to the distinguished speakers and meet others of like mind to discuss and debate the merits, creation and development of free societies.
They generally have more experience than most MPS members of living in societies where freedoms are limited and governments are not. As a result they are able to make an important contribution to the discussions.
An additional benefit is that they meet others of like mind in the region and form lasting friendships and networks leading to further co-operation and an increase in the strength and depth of the debate about free societies in the area.
The registration fees of members and guests will cover the costs of the MPS Istanbul meeting, but we will rely on donations to fund the attendance of many of those academic, students and others who live in the Balkans, ex-Soviet Republics and Middle East who understand and promote free societies but would be unable to cover all the costs of such attending such a meeting.
